Father Ryan’s Renner signs with UAB in soccer
Thursday, March 8, 2012 | 9:59 amAlex Renner, a senior goalkeeper at Father Ryan, signed a letter of intent on Monday to play college soccer at Alabama-Birmingham.
Renner, 18, joins a UAB squad that won the regular season Conference-USA championship and made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament last season.
He will be one of three freshmen goalkeepers on the UAB roster competing for the starting job next season. UAB graduates both its senior goalkeepers in May.
Renner won the starting goalkeeping job at Father Ryan as a sophomore and helped the team to a Division II-AA finalist finish in 2009, a quarterfinalist spot in 2010 and the state championship in 2011. In the 2011 season, he was part of a defensive corps that finished the season with a school-record eight consecutive shutouts on its way to the Tennessee title.
Renner played his club soccer for the Clarksville SA KAOS Arsenal club for four years and for Brentwood Soccer Club for one year. As the starting goalkeeper, he helped lead his teams to two Tennessee state championships, two Regional Premier League championships and three appearances in U.S. Soccer’s Southern Regionals, where they made the quarterfinals in 2009.
Renner has also played hockey for Father Ryan since his sophomore year. He is currently the No. 4 scorer on a team that has reached the semifinals of the city championships.

Ezell-Harding’s Teague signs with Austin Peay
Thursday, February 2, 2012 | 4:05 amEzell-Harding defensive end/tight end Corey Teague signed with Austin Peay on Wednesday.
As a senior at wide receiver and running back, he ran the ball 25 times for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
The 6-foor-1, 235-pounder had 13 catches for 170 yards and three TDs last season.
His cousin, Marsalis Teague, is a defensive back for the Tennessee Volunteers. Another cousin, Henry County’s Shaquille Allen, signed with Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday.

Brad Lidge signs one year deal with Nationals

Due to a shoulder injury, Lidge appeared in just 25 games last season in which he posted a 0-2 record with a 1.40 ERA. He struckout 23 batters in 19.1 innings. In 2010, Lidge posted a 2.96 ERA with 27 saves. Lidge posted 31 saves in 2009 and 41 in 2008. In 10 seasons, Lidge has posted 223 saves with a 26-31 record and a career ERA of 3.44. BGA’s Redovian signs with Wake Forest

Battle Ground Academy infielder Jimmy Redovian signed with Wake Forest on Monday.
He has started the past three seasons for the Wildcats. Redovian will join another former BGA standout, Duke utilityman Chris Marconcini, in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Redovian was selected as an honorable mention 2011 Perfect Game Underclass All-American.
He spent the summer playing shortstop for the 17 and under Music City Outlaws, compiling a team-high .432 batting average.
Redovian was named as a 2012 Under Armour preseason All-American.

Ensworth’s Grainger signs with Notre Dame
Wednesday, November 16, 2011 | 8:05 pmEnsworth’s Anna Grainger, an NISCA high school All-American and a USA Swimming scholastic All-American, has signed with Notre Dame.
The Fighting Irish have won 15 of the last 16 Big East championships.
Grainger is a Senior National qualifier in the 200 backstroke and 100 backstroke.
She is also a Junior National qualifier in the 200 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley.
