Orton close to securing Dallas deal
Saturday, March 17, 2012 | 8:37 amThe Cowboys are finalizing a deal that is perhaps one that has surprised a few fans. Kyle Orton was eventually axed from the starting slot by Denver midway through last season, famously allowing Tim Tebow to inspire a playoff win over the Steelers. It now seems the experienced quarterback is on his way to join the Boys.
After the Broncos having so much success under the services of Tebow, Orton thought his time was done and headed to finish the season with the Kansas City Chiefs. For the Chiefs he threw 252 passes for 1758 as well throwing 9 touchdown passes and gaining a QB rating of 77.8.
For me, this is a very good addition by the Cowboys management. Not many teams would view Orton to have any value but the Cowboys have reacted and have made him theirs. He will provide a solid, established quarterback to play a bench role behind Tony Romo.
I think Orton will a decent job in Dallas if and when required. Ok, he isn’t as good as Romo but he is good enough to exploit all of the dangerous offensive threats the Cowboys pose. The likes of Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten will be big targets for Orton. Laurent Robinson was missing from that list after the recent trade speculation of him joining Jacksonville.
The arrival of Orton probably means the end for Stephen McGee, the youngster who backed up Romo last season. McGee has showed glimpses of potential in his few appearances for Dallas, but I cant see him being a backup quarterback who you can call upon in the tough situations.
The Cowboys are all of a sudden looking pretty active in free agent market and it is something you should keep your eyes open for!

Nationals sign Michael Morse to a multi-year deal
Saturday, January 21, 2012 | 1:42 amThe Washington Nationals signed OF/1B Michael Morse to a multi-year deal today. By signing Morse now the Nationals avoid arbitration, which could have resulted in Morse getting even more money than he did. [And we don't know what he got yet.] Morse, who turns 30 in March, had easily the best season of his Major League career last year, batting .303, with a .360 OBP, .550 SLG, .889 OPS, 139 OPS+ in 146 games. He hit 31 home runs, drove in 95 runs , and cracked 158 hits. Basically, he had the season Jayson Werth was supposed to have. More [...]

NBA Trade Deadline: Let’s make a deal
Friday, February 25, 2011 | 6:04 amIn addition to the Clippers deal that bagged guard Mo Williams and banished over-priced Baron Davis, here’s a look at other swapmeet-like movements Thursday across the NBA as the trade deadline loomed (according to sourced reports):
ATLANTA: Acquired guard Kirk Hinrich from Washington in a five-player trade that sent Mike Bibby to the Wizards.
BOSTON: Dealt center Kendrick Perkins and guard Nate Robinson to Oklahoma City for forward Jeff Green and center Nenad Krstic, and traded rookie forward Luke Harangody and 7-foot center Semih Erden to Cleveland for draft picks.
CHARLOTTE: Sent forward Gerald Wallace to the Portland Trail Blazers for center Joel Przybilla, forward Dante Cunningham and two first-round draft picks.
HOUSTON: Traded forward Shane Battier to the Memphis Grizzlies for center Hasheem Thabeet and a first-round draft pick. The Rockets get first-round picks in both deals.
MEMPHIS: Acquired guard Goran Dragic and guard Ish Smith in the Houston deal. The Grizzlies nearly acquired forward Josh McRoberts and a 2011 first-round pick from the Indiana Pacers for guard O.J. Mayo, but the deal fell apart at the last minute.
Stay tuned.

Pac-10 basketball: Have I mentioned that the TV deal STINKS!?!?!
Sunday, January 16, 2011 | 7:54 pm*** 6:15 p.m. update: First game at Matthew Knight Arena does not excuse the situation.
If the Pac-10 had a better deal, there would have been alternative broadcast options. A contract with ESPN, for instance, would have meant one of the Bay Area games could have been shown on ESPN2 or ESPNU. (If there’s a [...]
